Design and Analysis of Computer Networks      Apr. – Jul., 2012-2017

This course covers the basic concepts and principles of computer communication networks. The network architecture is discussed in detail based on OSI referrence model, including data link layer, medium access control, network layer, transport layer and application layer. Meanwhile, this course takes TCP/IP in consideration owing to wide use of Internet. Therefor, the common issues are presented giving attention to two models of OSI/RM and TCP/IP. The content includes LAN. WAN, Internet, ATM and B-ISDN, giving prominence to communication subnet and resource subnet. It also specifies many kinds of switching techniques, thinking much of theoretic analysis, such as routing and flow control, etc.

This course gives an introduction to wireless communication and networking, including Radio Propagation, Principles of Cellular Systems, UMTS Network Architecture, UMTS Quality of Service, Mobility Management, Mobile IP (v4/v6), Wi-Fi: 802.11, WiMax: 802.16, Ad Hoc Networks, QoS in Ad Hoc Networks, Wireless Security, Wireless Personal Area Networks, Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN), The Internet of Things, Ubiquitous Networks, Social Networks. The course also covers special topics such as Network Data Storage, 3-D global networks, Cognitive Radio Networks, Quantum Networks and DNA networks.

This course covers the following topics: Introduction to performance evaluation techniques for computer and communication networks. Little's theorem, birth-death processes, M/G/1 queue, queueing networks, approximation techniques for G/G/1 queues. Discrete event simulations, generation of random variables, variance reduction techniques and general purpose simulation languages. My responsibilities include preparing and presenting several lectures, developing course projects, grading homework and exam papers.

ECE 545 (Advanced Communication Networks)      Jan. – May, 2008

This course provides fundamentals of computer communication networks. Overview of data communication networks and protocol architectures with emphasis on the Internet protocols and network elements. Principles of network and protocol design; error detection and correction, flow control and congestion control, delay and throughput models, QoS, service support and application interface. Local and Wide Area Networks (Ethernet, Wireless LAN and Internet). LAN and WAN interconnection using bridges, routers, switchers and gateways. Routing in data networks. Network and protocol design to support multimedia and multicasting connections. My responsibilities include preparing and presenting several lectures, developing course projects, grading homework and exam papers.
